When it comes to eye cream, it’s hard to figure out which one is best for you, and even where to start. Almost every skincare company has some sort of eye cream, and most of them say that they’ll do the same thing: brighten. But are all eye creams really that different, or are they even worth it?
We all want our skin to be brighter and the pigmentation to be evened out, so getting a brightening eye cream seems like a no brainer! However, there are so many different kinds out there, and so many different serums and solutions that can help with a wide variety of under-eye concerns.
For many, the main concern is dealing with dark undereye circles. Typically, under eye circles can be caused by a lack of sleep, iron deficiency, hyperpigmentation, or even overexposure to the sun. It’s tough to find a good eye cream that helps with dark circles, but a new cult favourite is Versed Vacation Eyes, made with Vitamin C, ginseng, and coffee extract, allowing your delicate skin under your eyes to get a much needed burst of energy and brightness.
Another favourite for under eye circles is The Ordinary’s Caffeine Solution 5%. Not only does this solution help with under eye circles, the technology behind it shows that caffeine can also reduce puffiness in the skin, essentially making this serum tackle two issues!
For people who struggle with puffiness under their eyes, look no further than Fresh’s Black Tea Age Delay Eye Concentrate. Made with primarily — you guessed it — black tea concentrate, blackberry extract, and noni juice, which is known for aiding in hydration, Fresh’s eye cream is pricey but has amazing reviews. The Inkey List’s Caffeine Eye Cream is a more budget friendly option, with just as good reviews. They call it a ‘wake up for your eyes’, where it focuses on decreasing puffiness and dark circles.
The skin around the eyes is so fragile and it dehydrates quicker than the rest of the face, so when we use eye cream, we’re allowing our under eyes to be deeply moisturized! When that area is hydrated, wrinkles tend to stay away, especially if you’re using an eye cream with the right ingredients. To help with wrinkles under the eyes, try Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair, a rich night cream that’ll help you wake up without under eye circles. For a more budget friendly option, try La Roche Posay’s Retinol Eye Cream, one of the leading eye creams for wrinkles and fine lines. If you want to go a different route and try under eye masks, try Shiseido’s Retinol Smoothing Eye Mask, which has rave reviews and seems to do it all — brighten, hydrate, and reduce fine lines.
Are eye creams worth it though? For some, it may seem like an unnecessary extra step in an already long skincare routine. However, because the under eye area is so delicate, it requires gentle ingredients and obviously has different areas of concern. Eye creams are specifically formulated to be in a sensitive area, as opposed to a general face cream. When looking for an eye cream, keep an eye out for some specific ingredients, such as: vitamin C, caffeine, hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, green tea, and squalene. And remember, no matter if you use eye cream or not, always use an SPF!
